Freehand writing on the HP iPAQ 111 Classic?
I’m thinking about getting the HP iPAQ 111 Classic but I need to know if it has a feature that allows you to do freehand writing with the stylus and not just typing on a keyboard or writing individual characters at a time. I’ve looked for a user guide to find out if this is a feature but i\’ve the ability to’t find one and i\’ven’t read anything about it having that feature. Can you write freehand notes on the iPAQ 111 Classic?
I know i can on my palm treo phone and that also runs Windows Mobile like the HP iPAQ 111. At the bottom center of the screen there is a little icon, looks kinda like a keyboard. When you are in any program that requires you to type/write something click on it. On the right of it should be a little up arrow. Click on that up arrow and it should pop up a little box that gives you some choices of how to type/write. At the top it may say, Options then under it would say something like Block Recognizer and under that Keyboard and then under that Letter Recognizer. choose the method you want to use. Use either Block or Letter. You will have to learn and get use to the way you have to write when you are in those different options. They have unique ways of how to write some letters. In most cases they will still show up as a typed in letter. If the program specifically allows you to keep it as a “drawing” of a letter than you should see it the way you draw the words on the screen. It takes some getting use to and may actually be a little slower for you to write your notes instead of hitting the buttons on the keypad.
Hope that helped you. Good Luck!
Yes of course the iPaq 111 can be used for freehand writing, that’s the whole purpose of the stylus on a PDA.
I have a 111 and use it with Pleco Dict for doing Chinese Character recognition….that’s why I still have it….all those new capacitive touchscreen touch now is IMHO a technology regression of using your finger (or more likely your thumbs!).
Stylus and touchscreen are in my opinion an excellent combination…too bad marketing and medias are killing it…
