While I am not familiar with Google calendar and contacts, I am able to sync my Yahoo calendar and contacts by downloading their activesync solution specifically for that purpose. You can also export contacts and calendar entries and import them in – whichever is easiest or more convenient.
Good luck!
I just cut and paste the stuff from the wiki.
Google Calendar can only be synchronized with mobile devices (e.g. BlackBerry, Palm, Pocket PC) or with PC applications (e.g. Microsoft Outlook) via third party software (e.g. SyncMyCal, RemoteCalendars, GSync).
Note you need to have Pocket Outlook on the Ipad for most of these software to work.
