How to make your blackberry not wipe all your data after the 10th password attempt?
i\’ve the Blackberry curve 8900 and my brother told me that if i type the password in wrong 10 times all the data will be wiped. Is there a way to turn that off and just keep entering the password?
No. 10 times is the maximum value.
10 times is the maximum amount of times you can try the password before it locks, I had this happen to me my second day of having my blackberry but I had it set to 3 attempts and I knew my password but for some reason it wasn’t accepting it…..trust me its a pain to have this happen. If you turn it oiff you cannot enter a password. The point of this is to prevent someone from getting ur phone (if u lose it) and going through all of your info…if u lose ur phone would u want a stranger going through all ur stuff? The only thing they could use is ur memory card which is probably pictures and media but thats better for them to have then ur sms texts and emails…..so I say keep it locked.
This is the most ridiculous things on BlackBerry.
If you argue that this behavior is to prevent someone to steal our data if we lose it. It’s just as the same as with you would burn your house when people want to try unlock your door, whether they are thief, friends, family. We can’t assume who tries to unlock is thief.
Got what i mean?
Giving password –> to prevent someone read/get our data.
Losing password -> find a way to remind password. NOT WIPE out all data.
Now, my BB’s data are gone forever…becoz of a little child. She was curious to solve the password, and at the tenth attempts…BOOM.
THANKS BB’s developer! You have helped me to wipe out my data even I didnt ask you.
You are the most genius developer I’ve ever known.
@MACprincess?
Another thing, would you like Windows to format your laptop/PC when you fail to log in 10th attempt?
I bet you wouldn’t.
Jati, this is just one of the features that make a blackberry so appealing to businesses. Everyone seems to forget, blackberry is designed and marketed primarily for business use. Erasing all data after 10 attempts is a security feature that gives most businesses piece of mind. Particularly when you now have the ability to virtually download your entire hard drive into your bb and use all MS Office programs.
hmm…u see blackberry…i loved u from the very first day i got u….in 7th grade i believe…i was the only kid on the block with one…and ur memo pad….best thing since sliced bread….but u see…my life has turned upside down…and my coping skill was to write in my memopad….i did…for about 3 yrs…until i had a mental break down…and was afraid of ppl reading what i wrote….cuz it was so personal…soo i changed my password….i thought i knew what it was…in fact i was like 99% sure it was something….but i have one more attempt left…before i lose 3 yrs of my life….soo plz….tell me how i can help cope with what life throws at me….this being one of them…plz let me prove to u that i am the owner to my black berry…and let me back into my life…!!!
My blackberry curve 8530 told me i was typing in the wrong password, then typed in random w’s (the letter) then wiped all my info on the last attempt. Now whenever i try using it it calls my voice mail, then when i txt the w/1 button doesn’t work. So i am having a very hard time using my phone. I tried everything to get it to work. Ive had for almost a year. Does anybody know how to fix it ive tried every website and I can’t find an answer. PLEASE HELP ME—-I don’t have the money for a new phone…so please help if you can…
Hello I use bb 8310 curve I can wash online vodio and can’t read online ebook with pda format please what sofewear do I need and were will I get it? Thanks
This is a good feature. Especially if you use your phone for work. If someone were to steal your phone they would have access to all your contacts emails notes etc that could contain sensitive work related information. Also blackberries come with Desktop manager which you should use to back up your device. So if you forget your password and wipe the phone you can just restore it.
@Rick.
If you say “this is just one of the features that make a blackberry so appealing to businesses.” In my honest opinion, that is a really weak reason. If that’s the case why doesn’t RIM always enable the password on every handheld? Of course RIM targets not only business users.
My question is still same,
Would you like Windows to format your laptop/PC when you fail to log in at the 10th attempt?
I bet you wouldn’t.
At least, RIM should provide a setting about this.
im gutted after looking long and hard on line for away im just reading the same thing!!! NO CAN DO
